Lake George Jr.-Sr. High School Library Takes a Hike

Lake George Jr.-Sr. High School is kicking off summer with an exciting outdoor adventure, encouraging students, teachers, and staff to connect with nature and continue a love for reading. As part of its annual summer challenge, the school library is promoting “one book, one community” with a school-wide read of Pam Withers’ Tracker’s Canyon, a thrilling novel centered around canyoneering.

“We live in a great area for outdoor adventures, so this book was the perfect fit for everyone to read and get outside and explore the Lake George area,” said Sarah Olson, LGHS librarian. The book’s theme of outdoor exploration perfectly aligns with the picturesque surroundings of Lake George, inspiring the school community to embrace the natural beauty in their own backyard.

The Summer Adventures Library Program officially launched on Wednesday, June 11, with a “sunset” hike up Prospect Mountain. Participants left on foot from the high school at 3:30 PM and returned by 7:00 PM, enjoying an evening of physical activity and breathtaking views. This initial hike was just the beginning, as multiple hikes are planned throughout the summer, offering continuous opportunities for the school community to get active and explore.

The program provides a fantastic chance to get active, connect with nature, and kick off a summer full of adventure and discovery. Participants are reminded to come prepared with their water bottles, hiking shoes, and, most importantly, their sense of adventure!
