Fall Varsity Football Update

Dear Lake George, Warrensburg, and Bolton Football Families,

Warrensburg Central School District, Lake George Central School District, and Bolton Central School District are committed to providing our students with opportunities to participate in interscholastic athletics. As we prepare for the upcoming football season, we want to share an important update regarding our varsity football program.

Based on our current and anticipated levels of participation numbers, we will transition our varsity football program from 11-player to 8-player football for the upcoming Fall 2026 season.

This decision was made thoughtfully and in consultation with the coaches and athletic directors from all three districts, with the primary goal of ensuring that our student-athletes can continue to participate in football safely and successfully this fall. We are not alone in facing this challenge. A number of other Section 2 schools are also transitioning to 8-player football, which will provide opportunities for us to compete against schools within our region that are experiencing similar participation numbers. At the modified level, our intention remains to continue playing 11-player football.

The coaching staff will hold a player and parent preseason meeting on Sunday, August 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lake George High School Gymnasium. The meeting will provide an opportunity to share important information about the upcoming season, including the transition to 8-player football, and to answer any questions players and families may have.

We appreciate the continued support of our families, coaches, student-athletes, and communities as we work together to provide meaningful athletic opportunities for our students. Our goal is to ensure that our students have the opportunity to continue playing football in an environment that is safe, competitive, and sustainable.

Football registration for both Modified and Varsity remains open for any interested student-athletes. Registration information can be found on each district’s website. If you have any questions, please contact the coaching staff or your district’s athletic director.

Sincerely,

John Luthringer
