Lake George Music Students Take Center Stage This Season

Lake George Jr.-Sr. High School musicians showcased their talent throughout the fall and early winter, earning opportunities to perform on some truly remarkable stages.

Three senior musicians, Brooklyn Cornell, Marie Hull, and Libby Pape were selected to represent Lake George at the NYSSMA Zone Seven Area All-State Festival held November 21–22. Chosen through a competitive audition process, these students performed alongside other high-achieving musicians from across the Capital District and Eastern Adirondack region. The festival culminated in a performance at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady, an experience few students can say they have had and one our musicians will remember for years to come.

On December 3, Lake George’s a cappella group, The Rhapsodies in Blue, was once again invited to perform at the Queensbury Parks & Recreation Hovey Pond Tree Lighting. As the holiday lights illuminated the tree, students opened with O Christmas Tree and followed with a festive set of seasonal favorites, spreading holiday cheer to families and children in attendance, and yes, enjoying their fair share of hot cocoa along the way.

Continuing the season of outstanding performances, members of the Lake George Senior Chorus took part in the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra Holiday Pops Concert on December 7. Students performed Vivaldi’s Gloria accompanied by the professional orchestra and joined students from Queensbury High School for a grand finale featuring Christmas in Killarney, Joy to the World, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. The opportunity to collaborate with professional musicians and fellow students was both inspiring and educational, and community feedback on the performance has been overwhelmingly positive.

Lake George may be small, but its music program continues to prove it is truly mighty.
