L’art pour tous! Lake George Students Paint Their Way Through French Culture

The Caldwell Library has transformed into a vibrant gallery, showcasing the artistic talents of Lake George Central School District students, through the World Languages Department’s “Read to Paint” Exhibit. This exhibition, open throughout May during library hours, features the imaginative artwork of 16 students from grades four through seven.

The “Read to Paint” program offers a creative avenue for students to immerse themselves in French language and culture. This year, they were challenged to create acrylic paintings based on instructions provided entirely in French, drawing inspiration from the bold and colorful style of renowned French painter Henri Matisse.

The project encouraged not only artistic expression but also interpretive skills, as a panel of Lake George High School French students took on the role of judges. They evaluated the artwork based on its quality and the students’ ability to follow the French instructions.

The First Place Matisse Awards were presented to, Colbie Vanderklish, 7th grade, Olivia Mondella, 6th grade, Clara Stevenson, 5th grade, and Frances Davenport, 4th grade.

Exceptional creativity and artistic skills were also recognized with Honorable Mentions awarded to, Onnika Brodie, Emma Durante, Makayla Belanger, Piper O’Leary, Ashleigh McCoy-Updike, Peatyn McCartin, Logan Egerton, and Liam Emblidge.

Beyond artistic achievement, the program also celebrated students who demonstrated outstanding commitment, service, and leadership: with honors going to, Maykala Belanger, Logan Egerton, Ily Howe, Piper O’Leary, Adele Davenport, Olivia Mondella, Ava Guay, and Clara Stevenson.

The success of the “Read to Paint” Exhibit was made possible through the generous support of the Adirondack Foundation, Superintendent Luthringer, LGES Principal Conway, Nathalie Martineau, LOTE teacher and Caldwell librarian, Mrs. Burrows.

Be sure to visit the Caldwell Library before the end of May to witness these impressive artistic interpretations!
