The Warren County Board of Elections visited Lake George High School to educate and empower its senior class. Republican Deputy Commissioner Caroline Clesceri, Democratic Deputy Commissioner Kim Ross, and Election Specialist (and Lake George alumnus) Jacob Baird led the visit, aiming to inform students about the voting process and encourage their participation in upcoming elections.

The session covered a wide range of topics, ensuring students were well-informed about their rights and responsibilities as voters. The board members provided a comprehensive overview of the election process, from registering to vote to casting a ballot. They explained how potential candidates navigate the petition process to secure a spot on the ballot.
A significant focus was placed on voter registration, with students having the opportunity to register on-site. The board members emphasized the importance of making one’s voice heard through voting and highlighted the impact of local elections on their community.

Jacob Baird, a Lake George graduate himself, brought a unique perspective to the presentation. He served as a powerful reminder to the students that they, too, could play an active role in their community. His personal connection to the school made the information more relatable.
“Officials from the Warren County Board of Elections provided our seniors with invaluable information,” said Trista Tallon, government teacher. “They received an overview of the Board of Elections and, importantly, had the opportunity to register to vote. The ‘mock’ vote, where they filled out ballots and used the electronic voting machines, was a fantastic hands-on experience. This important civic knowledge helps to further prepare our students for future political participation.”
