Lake George Elementary School students and staff have a new way to take learning beyond the classroom with the addition of an Outdoor Gathering and Learning Area designed for students of all grade levels and ages.
The 1,000-square-foot space provides a flexible outdoor environment for instruction, recreation and community engagement. Teachers can use the area for full-class lessons, small-group activities and project-based learning, while coaches and athletic teams can utilize it for meetings and team activities. The space also provides a comfortable location for informal gatherings and school events.
Beyond academics, the outdoor space is designed to encourage collaboration, communication and teamwork while giving students access to a calming outdoor environment that can support social-emotional well-being. Its versatile design also allows the district to use the area for family events, community activities and other school functions.
“We are excited to add this flexible outdoor space for our students and staff to learn, collaborate and gather,” Superintendent John Luthringer said. “Grant funding helped make this project possible, and it is one piece of our larger vision to continue enhancing the outdoor spaces at Lake George Elementary School.”
A removable shade canopy will soon be added to provide protection from the sun and weather, allowing students and staff to comfortably use the area throughout the school day and across multiple seasons.
The new gathering area is part of the district’s ongoing efforts to improve the LGES campus. Future plans include additional enhancements to the school’s playground areas, creating even more opportunities for students to learn, play and connect outdoors.
