Change in Communication Practice

January 10, 2022

Dear Lake George Families,

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Lake George Central School District has been committed to transparency in communicating with families as soon as we become aware of any COVID positive cases. After we contact the parents of children who may have been exposed, we post a news item on the district website and email all families in the district. We also maintain a table on our website with the number of individuals who tested positive in each building, along with the number of individuals in quarantine. In addition, the district is required to report daily COVID numbers to New York State for its School COVID Report Card

After receiving feedback from many parents, we have decided to implement a change in practice. We will continue to directly contact parents of children who may have been exposed, maintain the table on the COVID webpage, and report daily COVID numbers to NYS for its School COVID Report Card whenever there is a new case. However, the practice of sending emails to all families and posting a news story each time there is a new case will be discontinued. Instead, the district will email a weekly summary to all families through SchoolMessenger. The weekly summary will be sent on the last day of the week and will include the same information that was contained in the real time emails and website news stories.

We hope this change in practice will help reduce the number of emails in your inbox and alleviate the COVID information overload. Please be assured that if there is important information to relay (such as the COVID Test Kit Distribution information) we will send emails to all families.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you again for your partnership and support.

Sincerely,
