Students Love Baile Viernes, or Dance Friday

Today was Baile viernes, or Dance Friday, for Mrs. Cornell’s Spanish class 💃🏼

Mrs. Cornell first heard about Baile viernes (dance Friday) and música miércoles (music Wednesday) at an American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) Conference in Lake George. She decided to give them both a try two years ago as a way to build cultural competence and understanding through music and dance.

The class uses the gym when available, and today they went to Shepard’s Park. The students are spaced 12 feet apart, and they have a sound and wireless mic system.

“I find the students work even harder for me in the classroom to complete assignments in a timely manner because they want their baile viernes!” said Mrs. Cornell.

In addition to teaching Spanish grades 7-12, Mrs. Cornell is a dance teacher with Tango Fusion Dance Company of Saratoga Springs.
