Congratulations to the Honor Group for Class of 2019
Lake George Jr.-Sr. High School proudly presents the Honor Group for the Class of 2019. These students represent the top 10 percent of their class. In addition to speaking at graduation, the Honors Students also make decisions concerning the graduation theme, music, program design, and selecting a charity for class contributions.
Graceann Bennett, daughter of Jeff and Michelle Bennett, is currently enrolled in the New Visions Health Careers Exploration program. She serves as the president of Varsity Club and the Class of 2019, is the historian of Spanish Honor Society and is a member of National Technical Honor Society, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Weightlifting Club, and the Captain’s Leadership Council. She has earned Principal’s List for every quarter since seventh grade. Throughout high school, she competed as a captain on Lake George’s Varsity basketball and volleyball teams, being named Adirondack MVP for both. For basketball, Graceann earned First Team All-State for Class C, a spot on the News Channel 13 All-Star Team, and Times Union Small School Player of the Year. This year, she won Top Scholar Athlete for Section 2 Girls Basketball and the Post Star Teen Excellence Award. To serve her community, Graceann volunteered at the Caldwell Public Library and Operation Santa, fundraised for the American Cancer Society, and invested many hours in the Rock Solid organization, holding a spot as a Senior Leader. She grew up working for her family at Bennett’s Riding Stable and spent last summer working at Chic’s Marina. Following graduation, Graceann will attend Georgetown University to study biology on a pre-medical track and play basketball.
Nicole Kingsley, daughter of Scott and Deborah Kingsley, is a member of the National Honor Society, treasurer of Student Council, and class secretary for four consecutive years. She is an active member of French Honor Society and French Club. Nicole is a two-season athlete competing in Varsity soccer and alpine skiing. Nicole was captain of the soccer team that won the Adirondack League Championship this past fall. She is the captain of her club soccer team, GPS Albany, and has qualified and played on the GPS regional team. In addition to her athletic involvement, Nicole had several pieces of artwork displayed in the Hyde Collection and at local art shows. She was a member of the VEX robotics team that won at states and participated in the World Competition. Nicole volunteered her time with mentoring programs such as: 6th grade-10th grade Mentor Program, Little Sister Program, Natural Helpers, and KinderSeniors. She performed community service at the North Queensbury Fire Department and Habitat for Humanity. Nicole has been on an accelerated math and science track since seventh grade, exceling in Advanced Placement (AP) biology and AP calculus her senior year. She is currently involved in Career Exploration Internship Program (CEIP), completing three different internships in the medical field including two rotations at outpatient sites and one at the hospital. In the fall, Nicole will attend SUNY Plattsburgh to pursue a degree in exercise science.
Sarah Grace Kohls, daughter of Stephen and Laura Kohls, is a member of the National Senior Honor Society, Secretary of the French Honor Society, and a member of the Astronomy and French Clubs. She played flute in the school band since elementary school and participated in the All-County Band and NYSSMA. As a senior, Sarah was captain of the girls Varsity soccer team and was named Adirondack League Player of the Year and to the All-State 2nd Team. She was honored on the Class C All-Star team in both junior and senior years. Sarah currently holds Lake George records in girls soccer for career goals, career points, goals scored in a season, and number of Varsity games played. She has played with the Albany Alleycats Soccer Club since 2011, the NYS ODP Soccer team for four years, and the Vermont State ODP team for one year. Sarah was very involved with community service, volunteering over 100 hours with the Lake George Youth Commission Soccer Program since seventh grade. This summer will be her second year working as a bookkeeping assistant at the Courtyard by Marriott and Lake George Lanes and Games. Sarah received the Clarkson University Leadership Award, and in the fall, she will attend Clarkson University and major in applied mathematics. She plans to continue her soccer career with Clarkson’s women’s soccer program.
Madison MacDermid, daughter of James and Nicole MacDermid, is vice-president of the National Senior Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and Varsity Club. In addition, she is a Rock Solid Leader and KinderSenior. Madison participated in several AP classes throughout her high school career, including AP Biology, AP Calculus, two AP English courses, and two AP history courses. She played soccer throughout high school and was named captain in her senior year when her team won the Adirondack League. Madison is a four-time NYSPHSAA scholar athlete and made the All-League teams of the Adirondack League in her junior and senior years. In addition to playing soccer, she volunteered through Lake George Youth Commission to coach pre-kindergarten soccer players during the fall of her junior and senior years. She also volunteered for Operation Santa Claus, the Glens Falls Soup Kitchen and the Lake George Booster Club, as well as tutored students in Spanish once a week during 11th and 12th grades. This fall, Madison will attend Binghamton University, State University of New York to study biomedical engineering.
Lynnaya Regina Preuss, daughter of Stephen and Kirstin Preuss, is thankful for her time at Lake George High School and excited for what the future will bring. Throughout her high school years, Lynnaya pursued her love for language and cultural learning as a participant in international cultural exchanges, the most recent serving as a Youth Ambassador to Ecuador through the U.S. Department of State during the summer of 2018. She volunteered with Crandall Public Library’s “Fun with Spanish” Children’s Program to inspire a love for language in young children, and she completed her New York State Seal of Biliteracy. Lynnaya has been a member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) for four years, serving in multiple officer positions, assisting with the Sacred Heart Food Drive, and attending the National Leadership Conference in Atlanta to compete in Public Speaking. In her junior and senior years, she was deeply invested in the Rock Solid Leadership Program, serving as a Student Leader in its inaugural year. Also this year, Lynnaya organized a thank-you card exchange between Lake George Elementary students and nursing staff at the Glens Falls Hospital during the Thanksgiving season. She has been involved in student government and activities, serving as her class treasurer, Spanish Honor Society secretary, and member of National Honor Society. In addition, she has been a part of the band, playing flute and performing duets for NYSSMA. She has been a member of Vocal All County and the Adirondack Voices community choir. Lynnaya is an athlete, playing soccer for the school and a club team. During the summer she works at Stepping Stones Resort. Lynnaya is looking forward to summer and continuing her education at Boston College in the fall.
Gabriella MacKenzie Weidner, daughter of Mark Weidner and Maryanne MacKenzie, is a National Merit Commended Scholar, a member of the Senior National Honor Society, the president of the French National Honor Society, and will receive the French Seal of Biliteracy on her diploma. She held officer positions as a class representative, and is the president of both the French and Astronomy Clubs. She was a 2017 participant in the Annual Student Leadership Conference and attended all three years of the Clarkson University Horizons STEM summer program. Gabriella has been a member of the Warren County Youth Court, Rock Solid Senior Mentorship Program, Class Government, Diversity Committee, and Technology Alliance Robotics Club. She has been a member of the Lake George girls soccer program throughout her entire high-school career and played with the Northern United Soccer Club since elementary school. She practiced piano, flute, and voice at the Glens Falls Music Academy, and has been a NYSSMA participant in all three, earning a gold medal for voice. She was also a member of the Lake George Select Chorus and Vocal All County. Gabriella has been a volunteer and employee of the Warren Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, and has worked at Stepping Stones Resort in Bolton. She volunteered as both the junior and senior coordinator for the American Red Cross Lake George blood drive. She is interested in activism and has attended demonstrations in advocacy for a variety of causes. In the fall, Gabriella plans to continue her studies at McGill University in Montreal.
Mattie B. Williams, daughter of Philip and Laurie Williams, is an active member of National Honor Society, Music Honor Society, Business Honor Society, and French Honor Society. She has been involved in Future Business Leaders of America for five years, holding officer positions including co-historian, administrative assistant, and co-president. She attended the State Leadership Conference four times and qualified for the National Leadership Conference each year. This year, she placed third in Business Law and fourth in Community Service Project. She will be competing at the National Leadership Conference this summer in San Antonio, Texas. Mattie also swims competitively for the Schenectady-Saratoga Swim Club. She competed at Speedo Sectionals, Futures Championships, plus Winter and Summer Junior Nationals. She was recognized by USA Swimming as a 2017 Scholastic All-American scholar athlete. Mattie received the Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Award, the St. Lawrence University Augsbury and Book Award, and the Outstanding Business Student of the Year Award. She has been part of many community service projects, most notably the Annual Sacred Heart Food Drive. In the fall, Mattie will be attending the University of Richmond to swim and pursue a major in healthcare studies.
