General Music, Band and Chorus Information

  • Welcome to Elementary Music

    K-6 General Music

Elementary students have music class twice every six days. Students in Grades 1-6  meet for thirty minutes.  Kindergarten meets for twenty-five minutes twice every six days.

We utilize the finest leaders in music educational philosophies, including Carl Orff and Zoltan Kodaly to focus on the main areas of music education:

    SingingPlayingListeningPerformingMelodyRhythm
    CreatingExpressive Qualities and Movement

In addition to playing classroom rhythmic and melodic instruments, students also have the opportunity to learn how to play the recorder and ukulele during his or her time at LGES.

When possible, music learning is integrated with the other arts, as well as other classroom subject areas.  Three composers are studied each year to expose students to varied musical genres.

The use of technology is a focus in our learning throughout the year as well.

    • Chorus members have the opportunity to sing with the American Young Voices mass choir each spring.  We have sung with over 3200 singers at the Albany Times Union Center in past years!
