* * * DECEMBER DEADLINES * * *

AXA Foundation Scholarship - Offered to students who set and reach ambitious goals, demonstrate drive, determination and ability to succeed in college and who have respect for self, family and community.  $10,000 scholarships will be awarded to 52 students (one student in each US state, Puerto Rico and Washington D.C.) and $15,000 will be offered to 10 national recipients chosen from the 52 winners, bringing their total award to $25,000.  Visit www.axa-achievement.com for more information and to apply.  Deadline:  December 15, 2008

* * * JANUARY 2009 DEADLINES * * *

Elks National Foundation 2009 Most Valuable Student Scholarship - Offered to any high school senior who is a US citizen.  Male and female students compete for identical awards.  Applications will be judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need. Awards total $2,296.00.  Applications are available at www.elks.org/enf/scholars.   Deadline:  January 9, 2008

Damaris Smith Desimone Scholarship (NYS Level DAR Scholarship) - Offered to financially assist deserving young people in acquiring a higher education in UNITED STATES HISTORY with a view to becoming better prepared for life and citizenship.  Applicant is to be judged on the basis of merit and achievement during their academic high school years, and with regard to community service, personal and academic interest.  Expected award amount is $1,000.00.  Deadline:  January 10, 2009

Helen and Arnold Barben Scholarship Fund (NYS Level DAR Scholarship) - Offered to financially assist deserving young WOMEN in acquiring a higher education with a view to their becoming better prepared for life and citizenship.  Award will based on the student's merit and achievement in the high school, community, and with regard to her personal and academic interests.  Expected amount of the award is $2,000.00.  Deadline:  January 10, 2009

New York State DAR Scholarship (NYS Level DAR Scholarship) - Offered to financially deserving high school seniors (MALE OR FEMALE) in acquiring a higher education in a college or university in New York State.  Applicants must plan on attending a four-year college or university in New York State.  The expected amount of the award is $2,000.00.  Deadline:  January 10, 2009

Abbott and Fenner Scholarship - Offered to all high school juniors and seniors as well as students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution between the ages of 16 and 30.
