Forum Meeting Minutes

January 15, 2008

Chairperson Roger Wells opened the meeting

Introductions – members introduced themselves to our newest member, Fran Cocozza.

• Mary Cahill spoke to the board about hiring a full time social worker for the high school. They were supportive but wanted justification for the position, Steve Clark, Rosemarie Earl and Steve Preuss were consulted. The information from these people will be passed onto the board and the hope is to have a full time social worker hired by September of 08.

Biennial Review –

• Forum members looked at Statement of Success and discussed each component area. Have we remained at the same level (Consistent Implementation and Success), that we were at two years ago when review was done. YES – we have! We did discuss parent and student involvement, how can they be more involved?

• Still looking for new chairperson for Middle States next year

• School Safety

• ID’s – mixed feelings from faculty
• Greeter – This position has been presented to the board and granted. It should be posted within the next couple weeks. Both elementary and high school will be gaining this position. Please remember we are building this position from "the ground up" so the duties of the greeter will most likely evolve as the year progresses.

• Improvement of parent communication between school and parents.

• There was a concern brought from parent constituents communication is lacking. It is agreed there is always ways to improve and it will be worked on.

• A question was raised what the procedure for our student members were to communicate forum issues with student body.

• Student members explained they were given a short time during student council meetings to discuss forum issues, but do not always really know what to discuss. It was decided a bulleted list would be created for student members to discuss in student council meeting and feedback recorded for next forum meeting.

• Spirit Week

• Student Council will be heading the committee to re-evaluate spirit week for 08-09 school year. The committee will be made up of students, faculty and staff.
• Any faculty or staff member interested in participating please see Niki McGrath or Monika LaPlante.
• The committee would like to meet sometime in February.

• Studyhalls –

• Discussion of raising the study hall grade requirement continued.
• After listening to constituent feedback Mr. Cocozza asked if he could have some time (through June) to look at our current policy and techniques before any changes/decisions are made.

• Other

• A question was raised about the School Safety Committee –
  • It meets 3 times a year
  • Members – Both building Prin., Asst. Prin., Nurses, Head of Transportation, Business Admin., Staff Rep, Board Member, Safety Specialist.
  • Any information/decisions/policies created in this committee must be discussed at the next faculty meeting by the building Prin.
• There was some confusion about Re-entry policy at games etc. The policy says "No Re-entry". Please try to remind kids as they are leaving games etc. that once they leave they no longer can come back in!
• March 29^th the gym has been scheduled for a " FREE OPEN GYM" night. This will be sponsored by Communities that Care.
  • ANY student, staff, parent or faculty member interested in helping plan this event please contact Niki McGrath by Feb. 11th. This group will meet in February to plan.

Next meeting is Tuesday February12th and the agenda is to discuss last two pages of goals and a discussion on Drugs and Alcohol in our school.
