Forum Minutes
September 12, 2006
New student members, John Etu and Collin Gordon and new faculty member, Nicole McGrath were welcomed and all members were introduced. Two PTSO positions are open this year. Both Peggy Jones and Tom Dittus have decided not to continue this year. Therefore, there is a one-year and a two-year term open. Dave will contact Fran Feathers, President of the PTSO to determine who will be the new members. Our Open House is Tuesday, September 26th and possibly the members will be elected or announced that night.
Chairperson Nick Round began the meeting stressing that we should stay focused this year with issues pertaining to raising student achievement. Agenda for this meeting will include:
Student Achievement should be the focus of Forum topics
21st Century skills, soft skills, ICT skills
Goal setting and establishing action plans early with measurable and observable results
Think Globally
Other committees were discussed and tabled until next meeting. A question was asked, "When a person cannot finish their term of office for any reason, how should the vacancy be filled?" Dave explained (and it was the consensus of opinion) that since members of forum are elected by individual groups – LGEA, LGSA, Student Council, PTSO and Board of Education appointment (for community member), it should be up to each organization to decide how to fill their vacancy. Since Forum is a "shared-decision making group" it should not be involved in each individual group’s election of representatives. All agreed.
The rest of our meeting was spent on working on Goals – see attached draft.
Next meeting will be held October 10th. Members were asked to discuss the handouts of the previous meeting with their constituents and be ready to discuss next time. Agenda for next meeting will include:
Goals & Objectives
Discussion of Middle States Review – we still need a committee and chairperson. Chairperson will receive a stipend for the responsibility
21st Century Skills
Senior Portfolio & Senior Descriptors
FYI – On December 11th Tech Valley will present to Juniors and Seniors. The presentation will include a panel discussion.
