Forum Minutes

I. Nick Round collected surveys on cooperative/collaborative teaching. Nick and Roger will review the survey and summarize results. There was discussion about a concern some constituents had about "forcing teachers to use this method". The philosophy remains that methods will not be forced on people. Those interested in using this method are encouraged to do so, and any information or discussion is viewed as informative, and to generate awareness.

Anyone who has not turned in their survey can still give them to Nick or Roger.

II. Some constituents were not comfortable with changing the constituent groups to level groups. Deb Beck’s group was opposed but other groups were in favor. Forum decided that changes will not be made for this year, and we will further debate the issue upon additional feedback/comments from constituents. Junior High faculty feels as though they get enough "level time" and like interacting with other faculty at constituent meetings.

III. The Social Studies Department will be the lead in for increasing Multi-Cultural Awareness Goal. Anyone interested please see Michelle Elder or other Social Studies faculty. At recent Department meeting, ideas were generated for May planning.

IV. Constituents provided positive feedback with regards to the changes made to the first day of school for teachers. Dave will work with Special Ed to work out the mechanics of the planning for IEP meetings that day.

V. In regards to the Library Tech/Student Group goal, some constituents felt that this may be too much work for one person. It was discussed that candidates will be interviewed with this responsibility in mind. Others suggested that Linda Kissane should also be considered for this role. Overall there was very positive feedback for this goal.

VI. Feedback was positive for training Linda Kissane to become the Distance Learning Coordinator. Faculty was supportive and agreed that this would eliminate "logistical stress" of using this service.

VII. Groups were supportive of sharing instructional ideas with each other. We reviewed feedback from constituents and decided that Review Strategies would be a topic for "mini-discussion" at the April faculty meeting. Information to follow in preparation for meeting.

VIII. Other:

a. Fundraising issues for student council (Tsunami Relief): Student Council cannot raise money and then decide where it is going. They have to have a cause in mind when raising money. This is state law. It is felt that Tsunami Relief is still a very important matter and should be pursued by Student Council if they are interested.
